About

The science behind the dossier.

EpitomePD is the hockey-focused extension of a multi-year, multi-million-dollar psychological assessment project. Built on a reference database of more than 1,000 clinically evaluated participants, hardened by multiple junior leagues and prestige hockey schools / academies, and steered by a team of credentialed psychoanalysts.

The Premise

The mind keeps you here.

Long-term, elite-level human performance is primarily a function of mental state. Genetic and environmental patterns that predispose an individual to higher levels of performance and longevity can be measured — and used — to improve outcomes. In hockey, physicality may get a player to the majors; but it is the mind that, barring injury, keeps them there.

Origin

Built on a clinically‑studied foundation.

EpitomePD extends Sigmund — a multi-year, multi-million-dollar clinically studied psychological assessment project. Sigmund’s contributors spanned administration, machine learning, programming, data science, and clinical psychiatry. The project produced a purpose-built proprietary reference database: de-identified biometric data, including EEG, from more than 1,200 persons across diverse demographics. A subsequent clinical study with York University correlated genetic data with objective environmental variables to predict depression with greater than 90% accuracy.

The Road

From clinical instrument to hockey edge.

Epitome was not built in one shot. The platform is the cumulative result of years of clinical work, machine learning, and domain-specific calibration.

  1. 01

    Discovery

Common mental conditions are found to be misdiagnosed more than 60% of the time, with diagnosis often shaped by subjective judgment. A Calgary research facility opens to gather objective biometric data — including EEG — from more than 1,200 persons. The data anchors a unique assessment built around objective rather than subjective inputs.

  2. 02

    YMI Health

Initial interpretation algorithms are developed against the proprietary reference database under the YMI Health banner.

  3. 03

    York University clinical study

A machine-learning study correlates genetic data with objective environmental variables to predict probability of depression. The study completes with greater than 90% accuracy.

  4. 04

    Epitome era begins

Focus shifts to mental and physical performance predispositions in hockey. Players from three junior league hockey teams contribute environmental and genetic data alongside coaching input.

  5. 05

    Scoring algorithms

Real player data shapes the algorithms that quantify predispositions toward elite-level hockey performance.

  6. 06

    Hockey academies

Senior personnel at three hockey academies are contracted to help establish the economic model and refine the player-facing product.

  7. 07

    Commercial launch

The Epitome web presence is rebuilt for direct-to-player commercial launch.

Cumulative investment in the proprietary database and algorithms is approximately $2.5 million. As new professions come online, the platform’s predictive footprint expands beyond hockey.

The Team

Engineered by builders. Validated by clinicians.

Built on data science — shaped and validated by credentialed practitioners.

Institutional Sales Manager

Nicholas Domitrovic

Leads institutional sales and partnerships, bringing Epitome’s predisposition reporting to junior leagues, hockey academies, and team organizations.

Diagnoses contributed to the reference database were provided by a broader pool of psychiatric and medical professionals who were unknown to one another — this minimized bias and preserved objectivity throughout the build.

From the Coaches

“Epitome provides objective, data-driven insights that empower players to own their growth while positioning coaches as supportive partners in tailored development planning. By highlighting specific mental and physical needs, it serves as a high-value tool for optimizing team performance and informing strategic scouting decisions.”

TJ ManasterskyHead Coach, Brock University Badgers · 2025

“By combining a player’s development data and genetic data, the predisposition report significantly enhances talent assessment and provides unique insights supporting personalized skill development. There is lots of value here.”

Willie DesjardinsHead Coach & GM, Medicine Hat Tigers · 2025

“The report’s genetic data offered new insights into player potential and limitations, allowing for the creation of individualized training plans. By evaluating mindset scores, the team identified the need to develop mental skills in certain players to improve their long-term performance. The hockey attitude score was crucial for understanding how young athletes manage adversity both on and off the ice. Overall, the analysis serves as a comprehensive tool for player development across different competitive levels. This unique report provides valuable feedback for coaches, management, and players alike.”
